Please email  media@stopheightswalmart.org to make your commitment and we will coordinate printing.  We have an accountant ready to oversee the donations and will ensure everything is transparent.

Please send in your emails ASAP so we may have signs ready to distribute at our tent at White Linen Nights.

Our first run of 250 signs (18 x 24 with stakes) was quoted at $511.48. (~$2/sign)  We will keep a list of who donated and will ensure you get your sign counts.  If the donation covers a large quantity, we’ll still ask anyone who wants one to please donate to cover the costs of future print runs.  The more signs in the community, the bigger the message!

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that the City of Houston officials are considering offering tax breaks to the developer of the proposed Wal-Mart in West End despite opposition to such tax breaks by Heights area residents.

“Though no agreement has been reached, officials said, the city is considering a tax reimbursement agreement with The Ainbinder Co., the owner 24 acres of Yale and Koehler streets.  The company plans a retail development at the site, potentially anchored by a 152,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter.”

The ‘rumor and speculation’ that began a few weeks back that Wal-Mart was looking into a parcel of land in the West End is now true, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. Previously, the City of Houston and West End’s District representative, Ed Gonzales, would not comment on the proposed development and the impact it would have because, at the time, no deal had been reached and nothing ‘finalized.’

Now that is is ‘official’, the community has reached out to Ed Gonzales by email and Facebook and is still waiting to hear back on our community concerns.
