18-wheelers can’t safely turn on a standard neighborhood street. The COH wants to redirect Walmart 18-wheelers onto the Koehler extension, a new street that will connect Heights Blvd. to Yale. THE KOEHLER EXTENSION HAS A REVERSE CURVE. Even if trucks are able to swing out wide enough to enter the street, the reverse curve will require east bound traffic on Koehler to back up for 50-100m to accommodate the truck coming in wide. BAD IDEAS = UNSAFE STREETS.
While you’re up to your armpits in commuter traffic, consider the feeder congestion that is currently in play on Studemont at I10.
This traffic corridor has ONE retailer (Arnie’s), not an out-of-scale big box development adjacent to a currently under construction strip mall.
It’s clear that commuter traffic alone is enough to create congestion that idles back to the railroad tracks. Now, how will an antique bridge
built in 1931, that rates 55.6 out of 100 (50 being failure) sustain all of this idling traffic on it’s deck? Mayor Parker doesn’t know. Do you?
PROTEST!
RUDH HAS BEEN FIGHTING FOR THE HEIGHTS WHEN OUR POLITICIANS WONʼT!
KEEP BIG BOXES IN THE ʻBURBSʼ. THE HEIGHTS DESERVES BETTER!
TELL MAYOR PARKER!
Mayor Parker recently announced her Hire Houston First Program, while at the same time putting local businesses in jeopardy in the Heights and West End by supporting the construction of a Big Box Supercenter which will drive small local firms out of business.
Mayor Parker will address the Heights Association at their general meeting on August 8th at 7pm and RUDH will be there! Join us!
Protest will start at 6:30 on 12th at Yale.
Per the HHA newsletter: The meeting will start at 7:00 PM promptly, and the Mayor will arrive by 7:15 PM. She will make some prepared remarks and then allow time for questions and answers. Due to time constraints, she will have to leave by 8:00 PM.
We intend to have as many people as possible gathered no later than 6:30 pm at Fire Station. This is important. It’s our chance to be seen and heard. Please come and let Mayor Parker know this is unacceptable.
If you want to attend the meeting to ask questions, RUDH encourages you to do so! If you would like help with questions, email info@rudh.org for suggestions.
